Meet our Principal
Dr. Melanie Williams
Dr. Melanie Williams has enthusiastically taken up the work of Founding Principal of Cornerstone Classical Academy and brings a well-trained heart and mind to the Academy. Her professional experience and background aligns impeccably to leading CCA.
Since moving to the Jacksonville area, Williams served as Director of Admissions at a private college-preparatory school, and then Principal of another classical academy. During her tenure at the academy, the school rose in its Florida school grade from a C to an A. While she is proud of this advancement, Williams believes that the wisdom, beauty, and good that is most important to education is often difficult to measure.
She feels a school's achievements are heard in the music played by the young, seen in the beautiful handwriting displayed by first-graders, evidenced by a student's oration of a traditional poem or preamble, and noted in the Socratic dialogue between teachers and their students.
Williams received a master's degree in Educational Research and Collaboration at Texas Christian University and was mentored by the Dean of the College of Education, a distinguished educational philosopher who served as the chair of her master's thesis. During this period, Williams taught sixth-grade students in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, enjoying the school's diverse community.
In 2003, Williams completed the Ph.D. in Educational Research and Evaluation from Virginia Tech, thus rounding out her educational experience. In addition to teaching within the K-12 setting, Williams served as a university instructor at Virginia Tech, a university program evaluator, and the director of a federally-funded statewide project that she managed at the Duval County School Board building.
As an undergraduate student of Elementary Education, Williams was selected by the Dean of Education to study overseas, teaching second- and third-graders in Redhill, England. Upon receiving her undergraduate degree, Williams was named Most Outstanding Elementary Education Major of her graduating class.
Williams draws on her depth of educational and professional experience to lead Cornerstone Classical Academy and to establish it as a premier classical school in Northeast Florida.
