About Cornerstone Classical Academy
Continued from the home page:
The Board took great care to select the Academy’s Founding Principal, Dr. Melanie Williams, whose commitment to classical education aligns impeccably with the mission of Cornerstone. As such, the Principal has undertaken the work of carefully selecting the leadership and teaching faculty of the Academy for the new school year.
In addition to the careful selection of a mission-aligned teaching faculty, Cornerstone Classical judiciously selected its classical curriculum that permeates all instruction. Cornerstone receives curriculum expertise from Hillsdale College, which guides the Academy’s ongoing curriculum needs. Accordingly, Cornerstone utilizes cohesive curriculum maps and, specifically, uses the following curricula: (1) Literacy Essentials, (2) Singapore Math, and (3) Core Knowledge Sequence.
Cornerstone Classical teaches four core subject areas as well as six additional content areas. For kindergarten through the sixth grade, the four core subjects include (1) literacy (phonics, literature, spelling, and English grammar), (2) mathematics, (2) history and geography; and (3) science. Additional content areas include fine art, music (emphasizing the violin), Latin, physical education, and handwriting (with cursive beginning in second grade).
In addition to the above subject areas, grades 7 through 12 engage in English composition, government, economics, and moral philosophy (with 7th grade beginning in 2021-22 and adding a grade level each year thereafter).
Cornerstone Classical Academy teaches a content-rich classical curriculum and employs timeless, traditional teaching methods. The Academy does not “teach to the test” but instructs students in CCA’s virtues, its curriculum, and in the school’s motto: Learn the Truth. Do the Good. Love the Beautiful.
